Categories explained
Every processed email gets a category — the colored chip you see on the Dashboard, Inbox activity, and email details. The category says what the email is; what InboxAgent does about it is the decision (see What InboxAgent does with each email).
The categories
- Sales — someone wants to buy from you or is asking about your product or service. These are your leads.
- Support — an existing customer needs help, reports a problem, or asks a service question.
- Marketing — newsletters, promotions, and mass mail sent to you. Usually skipped.
- Notification — automated system mail: receipts, shipping updates, sign-in alerts, “your report is ready”.
- Job Application — CVs and applications.
- Partnership — collaboration, reseller, and partnership approaches.
- Invoice / Billing — invoices, payment requests, and billing correspondence.
- Legal & Compliance — legal notices, compliance requests, contracts. These always go to a person — InboxAgent never auto-files legal mail.
- Spam — unsolicited junk, phishing, or scams. Skipped, but see the safety note below.
- Other — everything that doesn’t fit a category above.
- Unclassified — the email hasn’t got a category (rare; typically only mid-processing).
Why an email can show “Other” when it looks obviously sales-y
The stored category reflects how the email was decided, not just what the AI guessed. When one of your rules overrides the outcome, when confidence is below your routing threshold, or when a pre-AI filter skips the mail, the label can settle as Other even though the text reads like a sales inquiry. The full story for any email — the AI’s read, the rule that fired, the final decision — is in its detail panel and in System logs.
A note on Spam
InboxAgent flags spam and skips it — but it does not delete it, junk-folder it, or touch it in your mailbox. Your mail provider’s own spam filtering remains your first line of defense; treat InboxAgent’s Spam chip as triage (“no action needed”), not as a security tool.
Steering categories
- Correct a wrong category with Re-classify — corrections teach InboxAgent.
- Force a category-based outcome with a rule — e.g. “When InboxAgent sees it as Invoice / Billing → Send to review” (see Build your own rule).
- Filter Inbox activity by category to audit how any one type is being handled.
