What if you don't connect a CRM or helpdesk?
You can run InboxAgent without connecting a CRM or helpdesk at all — plenty of teams start that way to evaluate the classification first. Here’s exactly how it behaves.
What still works (most things)
- Every email is still read, classified, and decided — the full pipeline runs.
- Send to review works completely: the Manual review queue is your triaged worklist, and resolving items with Ignore or Forward to a person works as normal.
- Noise is still filtered, rules still apply, alerts still fire, and Inbox activity still records everything.
Sales leads have somewhere to go
A Create a lead decision does not need a CRM. The lead is added to your own Leads board inside InboxAgent, with the original email attached, and the email shows as Handled in Inbox activity because it was.
That is the whole point of the board: a business with no CRM gets somewhere to work its inquiries rather than a list it cannot act on.
Service requests have somewhere to go too
A Create a ticket decision does not need a helpdesk either. The request lands on your Follow-ups board with the original email attached, and the email shows as Handled in Inbox activity.
So with nothing connected at all, both halves of the product still work: sales inquiries go to Leads, everything else that needs a person goes to Follow-ups, and each has an owner. You will still get the alert the moment either is detected.
The Dashboard counters move as they always did. The second line under each — N sent to your CRM or helpdesk — stays at zero until you connect one, which is a statement about your integrations rather than about the work being lost.
Tip for the evaluation period
Set routing to Cautious, or add a rule like “When InboxAgent sees it as Sales → Send to review”. Then everything important flows into Manual review — a single triaged queue you can work by hand, with nothing bouncing off a missing integration.
When you do connect
New decisions flow to that system from that moment. And the mail from before isn’t thrown away: its classifications and decisions were saved, so the Integrations screen shows how many messages are waiting and offers to push them into the newly connected system. One click creates the matching tickets and leads from what was already decided, without re-reading any mail and without sending notification emails. Replies in the same thread become comments on one ticket, not duplicates.
Nothing is ever pushed on its own. If you’d rather last week’s mail didn’t become records in your CRM or helpdesk, choose Not now — those emails simply stay visible as “not delivered” in Inbox activity. For individual ones that matter, Re-classify (duplicate-safe) still works, as does resolving from Manual review.
